Tripura emerged as a powerhouse of strength and determination at the Northeast Men’s and Women’s Power Lifting Championship in Silchar, Assam concluded on Sunday. Wrapping up with a flourish on Sunday, the team from Tripura amassed an impressive total of 21 medals, proving their mettle against formidable competition.

The final day witnessed a surge in Tripura’s medal tally, with a haul of 9 medals, including 4 gleaming golds. This came on the heels of a strong Saturday performance, where they had already secured 12 medals, including 1 gold. This upward trajectory throughout the event reflects the unwavering dedication and raw talent of the Tripura contingent.

“This is an outstanding performance,” declared officials, their voices resonating with awe at the sheer grit displayed by the team. Each medal represented not just individual triumph but also a collective victory for Tripura’s burgeoning powerlifting scene.

Saturday saw Tripura’s women dominate the 84kg category, with Tanushree Pal and Runi Debbarma clinching gold medals. Their victories set the stage for further triumphs, as Rajesh Sharma and Joy Debbarma conquered the men’s 93kg and 120kg+ categories respectively, adding two more golds to Tripura’s growing treasure trove.

Amarjit Das won the silver medal in the 83 kg category, Rupen Kumar Lodh won the bronze medal in the 66 kg category, Swarup Roy Barman won the bronze medal in the 83 kg category, Akash Pal won the bronze medal in the 93 kg category, and Priyatosh Das won the bronze medal in the 120 kg category.

State team coach Dulal Karmakar’s voice cracked with emotion as he effusively congratulated the players. “They have shown what dedication and passion can achieve,” he declared, his words echoing the sense of jubilation that now reverberated across Tripura.
