The Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection of the Government of Tripura launched a new legal metrology office and working standard laboratory in Teliamura on Friday. 

The office, which is located in the Teliamura Municipal Council area, was inaugurated by Sushant Chowdhury, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection in presence of local MLA and Chief Whip of the Tripura Assembly Kalyani Saha Roy and other guests.

In his inaugural speech, Chowdhury stressed the importance of accurate measurement in everyday life. He said that accurate measurement is essential for ensuring the quality of products, and that it is also important for protecting consumer rights.

The Minister said to raise awareness about the importance of accurate measurement in every aspect of our daily lives, and to protect the interests of the people at every stage from production to marketing, our Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department is working tirelessly in accordance with international standards organizations.

“We are committed to promoting public awareness of the importance of accurate measurement,” Chowdhury said. “We believe that by working together, we can create a more just and equitable society for all consumers”, he said.

Chowdhury also announced that the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection is working to digitize the measurement process in Tripura. He said that this will make it easier for consumers to access information about the accuracy of products and services.

“We are working to create a digital India,” Chowdhury said. “Digital measurement is an important part of that vision.”

Stressing on public awareness, the Minister said, It is very important for consumers to be aware and cautious when buying any product. If adulterated food is mixed and less weight and measure is given, a consumer must definitely protest against it. 

In addition to Chowdhury, other distinguished guests at the inauguration ceremony included Nirmal Adhikari, Director of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies; Roopak Sarkar, Chairman of the Teliamura Municipal Council; and Madhusudan Roy, Vice-Chairman of the Teliamura Municipal Council.
