The 46th Kokborok Day was observed on Friday with events, marches and dialogues to celebrate the native Kokborok language.
Union Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, and Jal Shakti, Rajeev Chandrashekhar attended the Kokborok Day celebration and congratulated people of the State.

Earlier, a procession was arranged by the Directorate of Kokborok and Minority Languages in Agartala, and was led by Tripura minister Pranajit Singha Roy and former Tribal Welfare Minister Rampada Jamatia.
Minister Roy stressed the government’s dedication to acknowledging Kokborok and protecting the languages and cultures of the indigenous communities.
He also applauded PM Modi for promoting development in the northeast region, especially for tribal development on Janajati Gaurav Diwas.
A programme to commemorate the Kokborok language day was also held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan.
Pranajit Singh Roy inaugurated the programme and said the Tripura government is committed to work for the promotion and development of Kokborok and other minority languages of the state, which include- Bishnupriya Manipuri, Chakma, Halam, Kuki-Mizo, Manipuri, Mog and Garo Language.
He said the government’s main aim is to promote the publication of more books and establishment of schools in these languages.
He also said that teacher training programmes and increase in research are included.
Kokborok became the official language in 1979, but its script is still a matter of debate.
He said, a committee headed by former MLA Dr. Atul Debbarma was formed to address the demands for a script.
Kokborok is now taught in 22 degree colleges of Tripura and Tripura Central University.
