The State Executive Committee of the Tripura Disaster Management Authority (TDMA) allocated fund from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund for quake resistant retrofitting of Pushpabanta Palace in Agartala.
The decision was taken in a recent meeting of the TDMA State Executive Committee and according to a press release issued by the Revenue Department, Rs 638 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund were allocated to the Tourism Department for the earthquake-resistant retrofitting work of Pushpabanta Palace.
On-going retrofitting of government buildings aims to reduce earthquake risk, accompanied by training for engineers and personnel. Additionally, measures have been implemented to address fire-related incidents, the press release read.
In line with the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission, the State Executive Committee has also approved the plan for the period from 2021-22 to 2025-26 as a preparatory measure for disaster and the annual plan for the period from 2021-22 to 2022-23.
Highlighting its various activities, Besides, the press release mentioned, as part of the International Disaster Risk Reduction Day observance, various month-long activities were conducted across the state. This day was celebrated at the state and district levels on October 13.
Under the “Apda Mitra” scheme, the state government procured 15 types of critical equipment, handed over to district authorities.
The government effectively addressed issues arising from the Midhili Cyclone in November 2023 and heavy rains in December. The toll-free emergency assistance number (112) operates 24/7 across the state.
In addition, the state government has established and commissioned nine ham radio stations in all districts to facilitate communication during the disaster period. A portal has been launched since January 2022 for issuing emergency alerts.
