In an attempt to revitalize the organization in Tripura, Congress in-charge of the State Christopher Tilak and State Congress president Ashish Saha are are holding meetings in districts. As part of the ongoing process, a meeting was held at the Unakoti Kalakshetra on Saturday under the initiative of the Unakoti District Congress.
The day-long gathering was aimed at strategizing for the party’s future. With Tripura’s 2028 assembly elections as the focal point, the meeting emphasized rebuilding the party at the grassroots and strengthening its organizational framework. Senior leaders outlined a roadmap to transform Congress into a dominant force in the state.
Christopher Tilak, in his address, stressed the need for unity and resilience among party members. He criticized rival parties BJP and CPIM, accusing them of political manipulation and asserting that the loyalty of Congress workers under challenging conditions is the party’s greatest asset.
“Our goal is clear,” Tilak said and added, “By 2028, we must aim for a majority, and for that, a robust organization and unwavering ideals are essential.”
Tilak’s message was underscored by his interactions with panchayat representatives, where he sought feedback and outlined the importance of grassroots involvement.
While the meeting was marked by high-profile attendance and enthusiastic participation from district and state leaders, the absence of Birajit Sinha did not go unnoticed. Sinha, a senior Congress figure and influential MLA from the region, has long been a pivotal player in state politics. His decision to skip the meeting, despite it being held in his area, has led to widespread conjecture about possible internal discord.
Political analysts suggest that Sinha’s absence could indicate dissatisfaction with the current leadership or policy directions within the party. “Such moves are not mere coincidences,” a local political observer commented. “They reflect deeper rifts that could undermine the party’s efforts to rebuild ahead of critical elections.”
Notably, during the meeting, Unakoti District Congress president Md. Badruzzaman voiced concerns about the party’s leadership approach. In a direct appeal to Christopher Tilak, he remarked that sitting in Agartala and issuing directives would not suffice.
“Modern politics demands inclusivity and on-ground engagement. Leaders must unite under one platform, connect with workers at the grassroots, and stand by them during challenging times,” Badruzzaman said.
His remarks, though diplomatically worded, underscored frustrations among local leaders about the state of the organization.
Pradesh Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha, however, sought to strike a more optimistic tone. He highlighted Kailashahar’s recent success in the three-tier panchayat elections, where Congress outperformed expectations. Saha congratulated local leaders and workers.
“This success in Kailashahar is proof of our potential. It should inspire all of us to work harder and achieve similar results across the state.”, the State Congress chief commented.
