The International Day for Disaster Reduction is being held every year on 13th October. The aim is to observe how people and communities around the world are reducing their exposure to disasters and raising awareness.
In a message Nagaland Governor P B Acharya said that the Day is a way to promote a global culture of risk-awareness and disaster reduction. This includes disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness, he said.
This year the day has been observed today (Oct 13, 2016). The theme is ‘Live To Tell: Raising Awareness, Reducing Mortality’.
Acharya urged everyone to come together in making the State a better place to live by introducing better and stronger building codes, sound planning and better land usage, and, above all, educate so as to better equip each one from natural calamities. Saying that disaster risk reduction is everybody’s business, the Governor called upon the citizens to re-dedicate for preparedness and safety.
