In Agartala Muslim devotees gathered at Gedu Mia Mosque and offered prayers. The Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated across the State peacefully and without any untoward incidents.

Amidst celebration and festivities, Tripura resonated with joy and unity as Eid-ul-Fitr, the most significant festival for Muslims, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and reverence on Monday, marking the culmination of a month-long fast observed during Ramadan.

From Boxanagar to the serene locales of Kailashahar, the festival brought together communities in a vibrant display of faith, festivity, and brotherhood, reinforcing Tripura’s ethos of communal harmony.

A Statewide Celebration of Faith

After 30 days of rigorous fasting, known as Siyam, Muslims across Tripura welcomed Eid-ul-Fitr with prayers, feasts, and heartfelt exchanges of goodwill.

In Boxanagar, under the Sonamura subdivision—home to the state’s largest Muslim population—the festival saw widespread participation.

Prayers were held at 36 locations, with the grandest congregation at the Boxanagar Central Eidgah ground, where an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 worshippers gathered. The prayers, which commenced at 7:30 AM, were led by Maulana Shafiqul Islam, Imam of the Central Boxanagar Jame Masjid.

The Eidgah ground buzzed with energy as colorful flags fluttered in the pre-monsoon breeze, and attendees, dressed in new attire—pajamas, kurtas, and caps—offered their devotion in unison.

Similarly, in Kailashahar, the festival was observed with equal dignity. Muslims flocked to Jame Masjids across the town and surrounding villages, including Tilabazar, Baburbazar, Rangauti Bazar, Irani Bazar, Lakshmipur, Kubjhar, Phulbarikandi, and Noorpur.

The morning prayers, a cornerstone of the Eid celebration, saw participation from people of all ages, reflecting the deep-rooted traditions of the community.

Leaders Join the Festivities

Prominent figures joined the celebrations, emphasizing unity and goodwill. In Boxanagar, MLA Tafajjal Hossain participated in the prayers at the Central Eidgah ground.

Addressing the gathering afterward, he extended “Eid Mubarak” greetings and underscored the importance of unity across religious lines.

“This is a day of joy,” Hossain said. “What is Muslim, what is Hindu—we are all Indians. Hindus, Muslims, Christians—we can live together to build a united India and a greater Tripura.” His words echoed a powerful message of inclusivity, resonating with the diverse crowd.

In Kailashahar, Md. Badruzzaman, Vice Chairman of Gournagar Panchayat Samiti and president of Unakoti District Congress, offered prayers at the Tilabazar Jame Masjid.

Speaking to the media, he conveyed his best wishes to the people of Unakoti district and Tripura at large.

Meanwhile, at Baburbazar Jame Masjid, Mobswar Ali, Chairman of the Tripura Waqf Board and former MLA, prayed for the state’s happiness and prosperity, sharing his sentiments with reporters post-prayer.

A Tapestry of Traditions and Togetherness

The celebrations transcended prayers, weaving a rich tapestry of traditions and communal bonding. In Boxanagar, worshippers embraced one another after prayers, exchanging warm greetings, while children and adults alike donned their finest clothes—many stepping out in vibrant new outfits to mark the occasion.

Fairs sprung up in several areas, adding a festive flair, while households buzzed with activity as families prepared feasts and welcomed guests.

The tradition of distributing Fitra—monetary donations to the poor—was observed widely, embodying the spirit of charity central to Eid.

Kailashahar mirrored this festive spirit, with people sharing sweets after prayers, a gesture symbolizing affection and goodwill.

Across both regions, the absence of any untoward incidents underscored the peaceful nature of the celebrations.

In Kailashahar, the police bolstered security across the subdivision, ensuring a smooth and safe experience for all.

Interfaith Harmony Shines Bright

A standout feature of this year’s Eid was the participation of people from other faiths. In Boxnagar, individuals from Hindu and other communities visited Muslim households, extending “Eid Mubarak” greetings and joining in the festivities.

Many families, irrespective of religion, honored invitations to share meals, reflecting Tripura’s harmonious coexistence. Similarly, in Kailashahar, the interfaith exchange of goodwill added warmth to the celebrations.

The day prior, social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook were abuzz with “Eid Mubarak” messages, amplifying the festive cheer. In Boxnagar, the afternoon saw children spill onto the streets in their new clothes, their laughter mingling with the sounds of celebration.

A Message of Unity and Hope

The festivities concluded with prayers for global peace and prosperity. In Boxnagar, Imam Shafiqul Islam led a dua (supplication) for the well-being of people of all faiths, a sentiment echoed across Tripura’s Eidgahs and mosques.

MLA Hossain, in his address, envisioned a stronger bond of brotherhood transcending caste, creed, and religion, while leaders like Badruzzaman and Mobswar Ali emphasized prosperity and unity.

As the sun set on March 31, Tripura stood as a beacon of harmony, with Boxnagar and Kailashahar exemplifying the joy, faith, and togetherness that define Eid-ul-Fitr.

From prayer grounds to homes, the festival left behind a legacy of love, charity, and hope for a brighter, united future.
