Agartala April 1: Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha updated the State Assembly on Monday regarding recent Reliance delegation talks.
A delegation from Reliance, led by Awadhesh Singh, a prominent business leader from the Northeast, visited Agartala on March 22 and held a meeting with senior officials of the Tripura state government.
The discussions focused on the potential for Reliance’s investment in the state.
Responding to a public interest notice raised by MLA Kalyani Saha Roy, the Chief Minister said that the meeting identified several key areas where Reliance Group could play a significant role in Tripura’s development by leveraging its natural resources.
These areas include natural gas, bamboo, rubber, agricultural and horticultural products, and medicinal plants.
The meeting also highlighted Tripura’s status as the host of the country’s third international internet gateway and its large pool of technically skilled workforce.
The state government urged Reliance Jio to expand its services in IT and IT-enabled services (ITES) under favorable conditions, leveraging the Tripura Data Centre Policy, 2021.
Besides, Reliance Jio was encouraged to establish a BPO call center in Agartala.
Chief Minister Dr Saha further revealed that Reliance Jio was invited to sign an agreement with the state’s Information Technology Department to set up an Innovation and Incubation Park.
He noted that, as Reliance Industries is one of the world’s leading energy production companies, it was invited to participate in the exploration and production of Tripura’s approximately 560 million metric tons (MMT) of hydrocarbon resources.
The state government also encouraged Reliance to establish a urea fertilizer production unit in Tripura.
During the meeting, the state government called on the Reliance delegation to invest in additional sectors, such as ethanol production from bamboo resources, eco-tourism and wildlife conservation, rubber wood processing, agriculture and horticultural products, and handicrafts and handlooms.
The Chief Minister expressed hope that a suitable team of Reliance Group officials would visit the state to explore and implement these investment opportunities.
