In a move to help flood-hit farmers, the Assam government has decided to procure 40 thousand Metric Tons of paddy at a minimum support price.
The decision was taken in a high level meeting of the Agriculture department held in Guwahati yesterday under the Chairmanship of Agriculture Production Commissioner, K.K. Mittal. Official sources said that the minimum support price of Grade-A paddy has been fixed at 1,510 rupees per quintal, and common paddy at 1,470 rupees per quintal.
Procurement centers will be set up at paddy growing areas to facilitate the farmers. The government has also decided to supply seeds like mustard, potato and pea to the farmers by 15th of next month. On the other hand, in a bid to attract the youth to agriculture sector, the department has decided to start two modern agriculture farms in each district.
