ProMASS, Nov 02, 2016:
An ex-serviceman has committed suicide over OROP issue and as a result, political atmosphere in the capital and other parts of the country has flared up. Congress Vice President, Rahul Gandhi has been detained twice after Gandhi attempted to meet the family of the deceased.
Social media, Particularly in twitter common people are expressing anguish over the alleged suicide. Several Tweets relating to the suicide mentioned, Govt claims credibility of surgical strikes and urges people to send #Sandesh2soldiers. Who will claim responsibility of the suicide – Modi, Parrikar or RSS?
Hindustan Times reported, VK Singh has commented, “What his mental state was we do not know. Let it be probed first. #OROP should be kept above politics”. Surely such irresponsible remarks will only further damage BJP’s image.
Political activists stated, it is really unfortunate that one of our brave jawans have committed suicide over pension related issues while the Union Govt is contemplating raising Parliamentarians salary exuberantly. In the backdrop of forthcoming Uttar Pradesh Poll, it is important to note how the Union Govt hands the suicide issue and resulting protests by the Opposition Parties. “BJP politicized the surgical strike and attempted to ignite nationalism based on the heroics of Indian Army. Now any kind of inapt steps from the Union Ministers and Union Govt will only doom the Poll prospect of BJP in UP, opined poitical activists.
After series of farmers’ suicides in different parts of the country and atrocities on Dalits, suicide of an Army ex-serviceman will surely put BJP in tough pitch, opined a CPI-M leader in Tripura. A Trinamool Congress Leader stated, suicide of retired Army personnel will surely damage BJP’s chances in upcoming by-polls in Tripura.
Meanwhile, reports from a section of media are holding Bureaucrats responsible for the anomalies in OROP, disability pension and degradation of Army Officers vis-à-vis Civil Officers. Govt has appointed committees to remove the anomalies, but no Army personnel were included in those committees – this alone is glaring example of Govt-Bureaucrat nexus, remarked an ex-serviceman in social media.
