ProMASS:DEC 09, 2016: In Assam, a total of 120 tea gardens have completed the opening of bank accounts for their workers. The Assam Government has decided to make all payments to tea workers through their bank accounts. Finance Commissioner Ravi Kota has said that gardens have completed on an average 60 per cent opening of bank accounts. The work is likely to be completed in another 8 to 10 days. Mr Kota said that 15th of this month is the last day for opening bank accounts in the tea gardens. There are 780 tea gardens in Assam. Awareness drives are being carried out by district administrations on cashless transactions. People have gradually started to show interest on cashless transactions after demonetisation of high value notes.
