ProMASS: DEC 15,2016: Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal hoped that the state would achieve the goal of fully digital banking soon. Talking to AIR Guwahati Correspondent, Mr. Sonowal said that several steps have been taken by the state government and SBI in this direction, and NSS volunteers have been also engaged to create awareness on digital banking system. The Chief Minister appealed to MLAs and MPs of the state to make the people aware of digital banking. The Hailakandi district administration has also asked different associations and establishments to open bank accounts of the personnel engaged by them with immediate effect to encourage cashless transactions and increase transparency. Meanwhile people can use the old 500 rupee notes for paying utility bills or buying medicines till midnight tonight. From tomorrow, people can only deposit the invalid 500 rupee currency in their bank accounts.
