Arriving at Agartala on Mar 26 from J&K, DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra Singh met Tripura CM Manik Sarkar in State Secretariat. Both discussed about a host of issues relating to the development of the State as well as North East Region (NER). Later Dr Singh addressed a Press Conference and reiterated that overall development of NER and implementation of Act East Policies were among the priorities of Modi-led NDA Govt.
Addressing a Press Conference in Agartala on Mar 26, The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr Jitendra Singh said Rail Link between India and Bangladesh is high on the priority of Government of India. He said, DoNER Ministry is funding the Indian Side of the Railway Link whereas the Ministry of External affairs is funding the Rail line across the Border. Replying to a Question Dr. Singh informed that there is no delay and the fund will be released in the due course. He stated the Central Government, Railway and the State Government are keen to go fast on this project. He also informed that DoNER is also trying to improve Waterways through Tripura.
Speaking on improving Inter Regional Connectivity he said, the Government is aware and trying to sort out the problems of Inter-Regional air connectivity in North East. He said he has already discussed the matter with the Aviation Ministry and some of the Helicopter companies. He further added the Helicopter services which could be started but for that the Helicopters companies needs to be motivated owing to high cost of the Helicopters.
Shedding light on the Act East policy he said that Government is pro-active on the Act East Policy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking keen interest to this end. He said the Prime Minister is focusing his attention on all the peripheral States particularly North East, including Tripura. He added Railway Link through Tripura, will not only benefit the People of Tripura and the people of the region but also going to benefit people beyond the borders, which is part of the Act East policy of the Present NDA Government. He also added that the Exchange of the Enclaves is meant to facilitate the pathways and these are very proactive measures which are happening under the Present central Government and is part of the Act East policy.
