Paramita Gharai
Like all other literature, Bhoot which means Ghost in English is very often used in Bengali literature. Several folklore and fairy tales on Bhoot are found in Bengali literature – Bengali speaking people’s fascination with ghost is found in rituals. One of popular rituals is called Bhoot (Ghost) Chaturdashi festival normally occurs on the 14th day of Krishna Paksha (waning phase of moon) at the night before Kali Puja / Diwali festival.
The following folk-verse by Paramita Gharai is based on a ritual named Bhoot Chaturdashi
হাহা হাহা হিহি হিহি আসছে ছুটে কারা
আঁধার রাতে ঘেমে নেয়ে চোখ যে ছানাবড়া ।
মামদো ভূতের ছানা কেমন খিলখিলিয়ে হাসে
শ্যাওড়া গাছে পেত্নী তখন খকখকিয়ে কাশে ।
গেছো ভূত নেচে বেড়ায় তা ধিন ধিনা ধিনা
মেছো ভূতে র খোনা গলা, চলছে নাচা গানা।
ভুষুন্ডির মাঠে আজ ফিস্টি হবে খবর
শাকচুন্নি খুন্তি হাতে, রান্না করে জবর।
ব্রহ্মদত্যি ,স্কন্দকাটা আজকে খুবই খুশি
ভূতুড়ে আড্ডায় জমজমাট ভূত চতুর্দশী।
