4-year-old Child Injured in Vicious Stray Dog Attack in Tripura

One child suffered injuries after a stray dog attacked him at Shitaltali under Amtali  Police Station in Tripura. The four-year-old child was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The residents of Shitaltali are living in constant fear after the dog, suspected to be rabid, attacked the child. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when the dog entered the child's house and viciously threw him to the ground. The family managed to drive the dog away with sticks, but the child had to be rushed to the hospital for treatment.

According to the locals, the rabid dog has been terrorizing the area and chasing people. Fearing the attack, locals are forced to remain indoors and whenever they venture out people carry sticks to scare away the dog. Despite pleas from residents, the Amtali police station reportedly declined to intervene, stating it was not within their jurisdiction.

Subsequently, residents contacted the local administrative authorities, including the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Dukli block, but have yet to see any action taken to capture the dangerous dog.
Frustrated by the lack of response from authorities, residents have reached out to the media, recounting the harrowing experience and urging the government and administration to take immediate action.

They fear for their safety and are calling for the swift removal of the rabid dog from their neighborhood before more harm is done.

The residents argued, the attack on a child reflected the vulnerability of the children in the area.
Although dog menace in Tripura is still not an alarming issue, incidences of Dog bites and rabies are reported to be increasing in the country. IANS reported, “According to available data, India reported total 72,77,523 cases of animal bites in 2019, which dropped to 46,33,493 in 2020 and 17,01,133 a year later. The first seven months of 2022, however, recorded more than 14.5 lakh cases.”
