AGMC medical student commits suicide

A 23-year old medical student, Adarsh De, was found hanging in his hostel room at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) on Monday evening.  

The 9th semester medical student hailed from Belonia in South Tripura. Since his school days, Adarsh was known as a meritorious student and he had topped in the Higher Secondary exams of 2016 from Belonia English Medium School and was doing well in his MBBS studies.  

Sources in the GBP hospital confirmed Adarsh’s body was found in his hostel room but did not ascertain cause of the suicide.

It is learnt there was nothing unusual in the behavior of Adarsh during the day.

A senior medical officer posted at the hospital in the condition of anonymity said, “according to the college records he had attended all his classes but disappeared in the evening. After a lot of attempts when his batch-mates failed to get any response they broke the door of his hostel room and spotted him hanging”.

The medical students entered his room and took him out hoping that they could save his life but all the attempts to revive him failed, the source said. Adarsh was a bright and successful student in his batch and a fall descended in AGMC and GBP Hospital.

Local police along with some of his relatives had reached the hostel and his parents were about to reach the hospital till filing the story.

Sources close to Adarsha revealed that he was the only son of his father Ashok De who is a Panchayat secretary. FaceBook account details of Adarsh revealed that apart from pursuing MBBS, he was a Professional Forex trader and Search Engine Optimizing (SEO) marketer. In addition, in his FB account, he also claimed to have expertise on Binary Options.

Sources in the police said, a probe is underway to find the truth. It is also worthy to be mentioned almost a decade ago, a medical student Rupak Nath committed suicide at AGMC in November, 2010.
