Battle against Corona: ICU of GBP hospital dedicated for critical Covid-19 patients

Several initiatives including utilization of Medical and Respiratory ICU (MICU and RICU) of AGMC and GBP hospital for critical Covid-19 patients have been taken to strengthen the fight against novel coronavirus.

The new initiatives also included installation of CCTVs and setting up of Helpdesks for better management in all Covid Care Centers and Dedicated Covid Hospital in AGMC and GBP Hospital.

Briefing media about various initiatives, MP Pratima Bhowmik, chairperson of Rogi Kalyan Samity, GBP hospital, said it has been decided to set up CCTV in all the covid care centres for proper management. The medical teams functioning in the CCCs will give a daily update to the District Magistrates regarding the health status of all the patients admitted in the Covid centers.

According to the Bhowmik, in the Covid ward of GBP Hospital, telemedicine facility has been introduced. Through this facility, the senior faculty and doctors will interact with the patients admitted in the ward every day at 11 am.

The nodal officer will interact with the family members of COVID patients and provide them update on the health status of the patients everyday between 3 pm and 4 pm.

Meanwhile, necessary instructions have been passed to all the District Magistrates and MS GBP hospital, to set up help desk at every Covid Care Center with a dedicated phone and a dedicated helpdesk assistant who can provide the update on health of their family members. The helpdesk number of AGMC & GB is 8794587236.

In the meantime, a special meeting was held on Friday in the College Council Room regarding utilization of Medical and Respiratory ICU (MICU and RICU) of AGMC and GBP hospital for critically ill Covid-19 patients.

As decided in the meeting, the existing MICU of 11 bed capacity and RICU of 6 bed capacity in the 4th floor of NTH-I building would be dedicated for the critically ill COVID19 patients as a stop gap measure.

MP-Pratima-BhoumikThe existing Non-COVID patients of the MICU and RICU would be shifted to IGM hospital, and for shifting of the patients, the MD, NHM would be requested to provide 102 Ambulance Service.

The existing ENT ward, which is adjacent to the MICU and RICU in the 4th Floor of NTH-I building, will be accommodated in the Lower Floors (First, Second and Third Floors) of the same building.

In the meeting, it has been decided that barrier will be made to segregate up to Third Floor of NTH-I building from 4th Floor and above of the same building immediately.

The COVID-19 critically ill patients will be transported through NTH-II building to reach the MICU and RICU and also the victims of COVID-19 disease will be taken out of the MICU, RICU and COVID-19 Ward through NTH-1I building by utilizing the Lift / Staircase of the NTH-II building.

Besides, steps will be taken immediately to ensure adequate Oxygen pressure in the existing dedicated COVID-19 ICU in the 3rd Floor of NTH-II building on war footing manner.

The only Bio-medical Engineer of the state- Ratul Dey, who was also present in the meeting, will be engaged for taking up of necessary modification work of the Medical Gas pipeline system along with required ancillary work.
