BJP rally comes under attack, Tipra Motha blamed

A public meeting of the BJP faced the brunt of alleged Tipra Motha supporters’ fury at a village under Champahaor Police Station in Khowai on Saturday.

Panic ran high after a group of miscreants; allegedly supporters of Tipra Motha attacked a public rally organized by BJP at Dwin Cobra Para under Champahaor Police station on Saturday.

In the clash, several BJP activists were injured and at least 17 vehicles were damaged.

Local leaders of the BJP organized a political rally at Dwin Cobra Para today afternoon. Among others, state secretary of Janajati Morcha Namita Debbarma and others were present in the public meeting. While the meeting was in progress and BJP leaders were highlighting achievements of the Governments, a group of youth, allegedly Tipra Motha supporters went on a rampage and attacked the people attending the meeting.

The sudden attack by the goons left the leaders and supporters in shock. During the attack, Namita Debbarma and other leaders managed to flee from the spot. Meantime, several BJP supporters sustained injuries. Two cars and 15 bikes were vandalized by the alleged Tipra Motha supporters.

Police led by the Khowai SDPO reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Amidst simmering tension, an additional Police force was deployed in the area.

As the political parties are gearing up for the upcoming State Assembly polls, the fight to gain ground in the hill areas is intensifying. With the IPFT and CPM’s tribal wing GMP are fast vanishing from the political landscape of hill areas, it is now a battle between BJP and Tipra Motha to gain grounds.

BJP is making attempts to expand its organization in the hill areas and regularly conducts organizational programmes in the hill areas.
