Bru IDP in Tripura: Out of remaining 651 families, 633 soon to be rehabilitated

Even as the State Government undertook several measures for the rehabilitation of the Bru IDP families, 657 Bru families – the number is reduced to 651 families as six families returned to Mizoram – are yet to be resettled. In a written reply to a question, Minister-in-charge of the Relief Rehabilitation and Disaster Management informed the House on Monday.

Referring to steps taken to resettlement them, the Minister-in-charge said, “All sorts of steps have been/are being taken by the State Govt. including holding of several meetings with Bru representatives on various levels. wide publicity through miking to submit their consent/willingness, for settlement in approved location. But the representatives of Bru organizations did not submit the list of families along with their consent within the deadline i.e. 31.08.2022 fixed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, due to which they could not be resettled”. 

Shedding lights on present status, the Minister-in-charge said, “Recently. 633 out of 651 left out Bru families have been submitted their willingness (excluding 18 families for lack of their consent) for resettlement at Kala Lawgang, Santir Bazar Sub-Division under South Tripura District. State Govt. has already sent proposal to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India on 15.12.2023 for considering movement of 633 left out Bru families who have submitted their consent/willingness to the resettlement location as well as for providing benefits to them under Resettlement Package as per the Bru Agreement. 2020”.

Meantime, approval for inclusion of 633 remaining Bru families in the list of beneficiary families under the Bru Agreement of January, 2020 has been received from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Govt. of India. 

Among the rehabilitated Bru people, 15701 adult persons’ names were included in the Voters’ List, 6302 families got the Ration cards, 5535 families for MNREGA, 15687 persons for PRTC and 16770 persons enrolled for the ST Certificates as on 11.12.2023. 

“All necessary steps have been taken by the State government for total enrollment of settled Bru IDP families within 29.02.2024 in mission mode.
