Brutal murder, alleged negligence and a suicide marked the day

As many as three persons died in separate incidences in Tripura on Friday. Brutal murder, alleged negligence, and a suicide marked the day

One 50-year old person was found electrocuted at Jubarajnagar in North Tripura District on Friday early morning. The deceased was identified as Tazir Ali, an auto driver by profession. Sources said Ali died due to the negligence of local power department personnel.

Villagers demanded compensation for Ali’s family as he was the lone breadwinner of the family.

Local sources said, one electric wire was dangling in the area for quite a long time – and even though villagers including the Gram Pradhan informed the Power department, no personnel came up to fix the loose wire. After a brief spell of rain and gusty wind today, the hanging wire was displaced and got connected with the mainline.

Unaware of the existence of a live wire, Ali stepped into it today and got electrocuted. As the report of Ali’s electrocution spread, local villagers vented their anger against the Power Department. Meanwhile, two power department staff came to fix the wire after the accident; however, they too faced the ire of people. Later, Dharmanagar Police rescued them.

In a separate incident at Madhabpur in Jalebasa under North Tripura District, a daily wage earner, Dilip Nath (35) hit his wife, Sanchita Nath with a dau (machete) after heated verbal arguments. As she screamed for help, Dilip’s mother, Kiran Bala Nath, came to rescue Sanchita – however, Dilip did not spare his mother either.

Later, the younger brother of Dilip rescued Sanchita and Kiran Bala. He rushed them to Jalebasa Hospital and informed Panisagar Police.  Sanchita was declared 'brought dead' at Jalebasa Hospital while Dilip’s mother was referred to GB Hospital with grievous injuries and in critical condition. Meanwhile, Police arrested Dilip Nath.

At Khowai, one 50-year old person, Subrata Choudhury reportedly committed suicide at his residence in BPC Para under Khowai today afternoon. Police registered a case for unnatural death. Choudhury cut his vocal cord through a sharp knife. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and his mother. Police recovered the blood-soaked knife from the spot.
