As the BJP-IPFT Government, after assuming power in 2018, declared to make Tripura an ‘addiction free’ State, Police are playing pro-active role in anti-narco drives. With strong Police network, narco traders are trying relentlessly to continue their activities in different innovative manner. However, Police are also equally responding. As Tripura shares a more 800km long border with Bangladesh, narco dealers are engaged in smuggling contrabands including cannabis to Bangladesh with different bordering areas. In this regard, BSF have a crucial role to play. Even as BSF foiled bid to smuggle ganja and such contraband materials to Bangladesh several times in the past, it is claimed there is enough room for BSF to augment its capacity and come down heavily to stop cross-border narco smuggling.
