Faith on quackery kills one Covid patient in Tripura

In an era of science and technology, one middle aged person put his faith on quackery and ultimately died of coronavirus at Teliamura under Khowai district in Tripura today.

One 45-year old person died at his home today after suffering from fever and respiratory problems for last 15 days. Owner of the grocery shop, he neither went to Hospital nor conducted any test for Covid19 – and breathed his last at his residence without any medical treatment.

After his death today early morning, Covid test was conducted and he was found positive. Later, the administration arranged shifting his body to Battala crematorium in Agartala for performing his last rites according to Covid19 guidelines.

Total of 13 persons of the deceased’s family were tested for Covid19 – all came out negative except for the maidservant.

Family members said, the deceased resisted attempts of the family members to shift him to hospital as his condition was deteriorating. However, the deceased person was adamant and preferred to be ‘treated’ by a quack doctor. As his physical condition became critical on Friday night, family members insisted him to take Hospital – but he refused. Finally, he succumbed today early morning.

As the report of his death spread, local people gathered near his residence but no one entered into his house as people believed that he had died of Covid19. This also created a sense of concern and panic. Administration intervened and took his body at Teliamura Sub-division Hospital. Test for Covid19 was conducted and he tested Corona positive.

“He defied pleas of his family members, he ignored administrations guidelines relating to symptoms of Covid19 – but he put his faith on a quack doctor. It sounds unbelievable that a successful and good businessman like him avoided medical treatment and died without treatment”, neighbours said.

The administration has made several attempts to aware people and to ensure that every person suffering from mild symptoms like flu, cough etc must visit the nearest health care centre and undergo Covid test – however, the person completely ignored it, locals commented.
