Following 'attack' on Sudip, Tripura Pradesh Cong meets CEO
Tripura Pradesh Congress leaders strongly condemned the alleged attack on its candidate of 6-Agartala Sudip Roy Barman at Abhoynagar on Sunday night and slammed the BJP.
Following the attack, Congress delegates met Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kiran Gitte on Monday and demanded steps ensuring free and fair by-polls.
Barman is presently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Agartala.
AICC Tripura In-charge Dr. Ajoy Kumar while addressing a press meet in Agartala on Monday came down heavily on the ruling BJP and also dubbed ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury as a ‘liar’.
The Congress supporters led by Dr Kumar, Birajit Sinha and other senior party leaders held a rally condemning the attack and marched to East Police Station demanding arrests of the culprits. The Congress activists were raising slogans against the ICA Minister.
During the meeting with the Electoral Officer (CEO), Congress delegates demanded deployment of central forces, free and fair polls as well as eviction of all the outsiders staying in hotels and bungalows in the areas where by-polls will be held on June 23 next.
Speaking to the media, Dr Ajoy Kumar claimed, “The attack on Sudip Roy Barman is the result of fear of the BJP anticipating a major defeat in the by-polls”.
Dr. Kumar also alleged that the situation had turned worse after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's visit to the state on Sunday for the by-election campaign.
“I appeal to voters to give a befitting reply to the BJP-sponsored Gunda raj through ballots in the June 23 by-polls”, he said.
Slamming BJP Minister Sushanta Choudhury over his press statement on the attack on Sudip, Dr. Ajoy Kumar said, “Sushanta Choudhury is a liar and a fraud. The video footages reveal he was leading the hooligans. Also, the attack took place in front of Sushanta Choudhury, BJP Candidate for 6-Agartala, Dr. Ashok Sinha and other Yuva Morcha activists.”
