Train services continue to remain disrupted in Assam’s Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section after the derailment of a loaded goods wagon though efforts are on in full swing to restore the rail traffic.
According to Railway officials, at least six trains continue to remain cancelled on Guwahati while some others being rescheduled.
Restoration work is underway, with senior railway officials on-site monitoring the progress. The railway authorities expect normal train movement to resume later today.
A wagon of goods train carrying food grains derailed inside a tunnel near MUPA in Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section of Southern Assam on Thursday evening.
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said that repair and restoration work is going on in the derailment site.
“Senior Railway officials are at the site for monitoring the restoration work and normal train movement is expected to be restored later Friday,” he added.
The CPRO, sharing information on cancellation of trains said that due to the derailment, six trains were cancelled on Thursday and Friday, partially cancelled three trains and rescheduled two trains.
The mishap happened when the rice laden goods train was heading towards Silchar in Southern Assam.
Canceled Trains:
1. **Train No. 05627** (Guwahati - Agartala) scheduled for 1st November 2024.
2. **Train No. 05697** (New Jalpaiguri - Guwahati) scheduled for 1st November 2024.
3. **Train No. 15617** (Guwahati - Silchar) scheduled for 1st November 2024.
4. **Train No. 15671** (Guwahati - Udaipur) scheduled for 1st November 2024.
5. **Train No. 15615** (Guwahati - Silchar) scheduled for 1st November 2024.
6. **Train No. 15616** (Silchar - Guwahati) scheduled for 1st November 2024.
7. **Train No. 14619** (Agartala - Firozpur Cant.) *Tripura Sundari Express*, commencing its journey on 31st October 2024.
Partially Canceled Trains:
1. **Train No. 12503** *(SMVT Bengaluru - Agartala Humsafar Express)*, which began its journey on 29th October 2024, will terminate at Guwahati. Services will be available only between Guwahati and Agartala.
2. **Train No. 13173** *(Sealdah - Sabroom Kanchanjunga Express)*, which began on 31st October 2024, will terminate at Lumding. Limited services will be available between Lumding and Sabroom.
3. **Train No. 20502** *(Anand Vihar Terminal - Agartala Tejas Rajdhani Express)*, which began on 30th October 2024, will terminate at Guwahati. Services will be partially available between Guwahati and Agartala.
4. **Train No. 12507** *(Thiruvananthapuram - Silchar)*, commencing journey on 29th October 2024, will terminate at Guwahati. Services will be partially available between Guwahati and Silchar.
Rescheduled Trains:
1. **Train No. 12508** *(Silchar - Thiruvananthapuram)*, originally scheduled for 31st October 2024, has been rescheduled to depart at 9:15 PM on 1st November 2024.
2. **Train No. 07030** *(Agartala - Secunderabad)*, originally scheduled for 1st November 2024, has been rescheduled to depart at 6:20 PM on 1st November 2024.
3. **Train No. 13176** *(Silchar - Sealdah)*, originally scheduled for 1st November 2024, has been rescheduled to depart at 10:00 PM on 1st November 2024.
The Chief Public Relations Officer of NF Railway, Kapil Kishor Sharma, urged passengers to stay updated on changes through the official social media channels of the NF Railway.
Notably, many express and local trains connecting Manipur, Southern Assam, Tripura and Mizoram pass through the single track of the Lumding-Badarpur Hill section located in the mountainous Dima Hasao district.
People of southern Assam, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur bear the brunt of floods during monsoon every year while the railway tracks, stations and other infrastructure get damaged due to flooding and landslides during the four-month-long monsoon from June to September. (Edited)
