Janjatiya Gaurav Divas observed in Tripura: Union Minister Sonowal unveils Birsa Munda's statue in Khowai

The second #JanjatiyaGauravDivas which marks the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Birsa Munda was observed in Tripura on Tuesday (Nov 15) along with the other parts of the country.  

 

On this day, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarvananda Sonowal unveiled a statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda at Khowai Banabithi Park in Tripura on Tuesday.

 

Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha, MP Dr Mahesh Sharma, RS MP Samir Oraon, MoS Pratima Bhowmik, ITDC chairman Sambit Patra, Chief whip of State Assembly Kalyani Roy, State ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Samajpati of Munda community Suresh Munda and others were present in the programme today.

 

Birsa-Munda-Tripura-Sarvananda-Sonowal-ManikOn behalf of the Munda community, Both Sonowal and Dr Saha were honoured with turbans, bows and arrows. Eight persons of the Munda Community were also felicitated in the programme. Besides, the artist who created the statue Krishna Debnath of Belonia was also felicitated today.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal said the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda was announced as the ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ with the initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said, the young generation will have to be inspired to develop patriotism through the culture of Bira Munda’s life and activities – then only, the observance will be fruitful.

 

Pointing out that the country is making steady progress under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Minister hailed to growth of Tripura during the BJP rule.

 

In his speech, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said, “One of the steps taken by the incumbent government to promote the Janajati tradition and culture is the installation of this full-length statue of bhagwan Birsa Munda.”

 

Dr Saha also said, "Glory to the Janajati is the glory to India" and commented, the living standards of the Janajati people are changing.  He also highlighted initiatives taken by the government for holistic development of the Janajati people of the State.

 

ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury delivered the welcome speech and said Rs 25 lakh were spent for the installation of Birsa Munda’s statue at Khowai Banabithi.
