Know about Tripura connection to victorious India U19 Women's T20 WC Team

There is a strong Tripura connection to India's U19 women’s triumphant T20 World Cup victory over South Africa.

Shrabani Debnath, the fielding coach of the victorious Indian team, hails from Tripura.

This was the first time that a coach from Tripura got the honour to be associated with world cup winning national team. This makes the achievement even more special for sports lovers of Tripura.

Overjoyed by the team's success, Shrabani graciously credited the players' dedication and hard work for their remarkable performance. Speaking over the phone from Kuala Lumpur, she expressed immense pride and joy in the Niki Prasad-led squad's historic win.

Alongside Shrabani, the coaching staff featured head coach Nishina Al Khadir, batting coach Apoorva Desai, and bowling coach Rajiv Dutta. Taking on the role of fielding coach was a significant milestone for Shrabani, who had previously coached Tripura’s U23 team.

Meanwhile, IANS reports: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with the entire cricketing fraternity hailed the ‘Nari Shakti’ (Women Power) on display by the Indian U19 women’s team for securing their second consecutive ICC U19 World Cup at the Bayuemas Oval on Sunday.

"Immensely proud of our Nari Shakti! Congratulations to the Indian team for emerging victorious in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025. This victory is the result of our excellent teamwork as well as determination and grit. It will inspire several upcoming athletes. My best wishes to the team for their future endeavours," read the post by PM Modi on X.

 Hailing the achievement of country’s U19 team, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of Rs 5 crore for the Indian side that claimed their second consecutive U19 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at the Bayuemas Oval on Sunday. (With inputs from IANS)
