Puja bonanza by Tripura Govt, recruitment for 4500 new post approved

On the eve of Durga Puja, State Council of Ministers of Tripura has approved 4500 new posts in the Home department and various other departments keeping special relaxations for the 10,323 retrenched teachers. The Cabinet nod is significant in view of the global pandemic and paucity of funds, sources said.

Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath, who also happens to be the cabinet spokesperson said that all the recruitments would be done through new recruitment rules drawn up by this government.

According to Nath, altogether 500 new constable posts and 4000 non-technical LDC (Lower division clerk) and MTS (Multi Tasking Staff) posts have been approved by the cabinet amid fund constraints posed by the Covid-19 and the government. However, special age relaxations have been granted for the 10,323 ad hoc teachers if they apply for the LDC and MTS posts, he added.

“There were three big decisions taken by the state cabinet. A decision has been taken to recruit 500 constables in Tripura police department through direct recruitment. Though some posts will still lay vacant in the department even after this recruitment drive but despite paucity of funds induced by this pandemic, we are doing this. And, in future attempts will be initiated to fill up the rest of the posts”, said Nath.

In the next decision, he said, the cabinet has also given a positive nod to the 4 thousand LDC and MTS posts (non-technical). Special age relaxation has been granted for the retrenched ad-hoc pay teachers.

“For these specific posts, special provisions have been kept for the 10,323 teachers as per the observation made by the Supreme Court of India. Otherwise, the platform is open for everyone. Some modifications are also incorporated in this case such as earlier only ST/SC job seekers used to have the privilege of repeating the type test if failed in the first attempt. But now, this relaxation has been granted for all. All those who fail to secure the pass marks in the one go can reappear for a typing test within 6 months”, Nath told reporters at the civil secretariat.

On the constable posts, he also said, the age limit for these posts has been kept between 18 years to 24 years with a relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST candidates. The qualification status has been also kept Madhyamik for general candidates and standard 8 for SC/ST candidates.

He said, “The selection tests will be conducted through a joint recruitment board that will be constituted by the manpower and employment department. Apart from that, the state cabinet has also modified the mark weightage system. From now on, the 85 per cent of the total marks will be carried from the written test and the rest 15 per cent will be carried from viva that has been 90 and 10 respectively as per the new recruitment rules set by the BJP-IPFT government. The modification has been done in compliance with the Supreme Court judgment that restricted the viva weightage more than to be 15 per cent”.
