The on going fuel crisis in Tripura is set to be addressed as for the first time since the crisis began, a fuel oil train has left for Tripura via the Jatinga-Harang route. The train is expected to reach State on Saturday evening. Once the train arrives, it is expected to alleviate the fuel shortage significantly.
Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha, in a social media post wrote on Saturday, "For the first time since April 26, a POL tanker has crossed the landslide-affected area between Jatinga and Harangajao in Assam and will reach Tripura tonight".
Dr Saha expressed his gratitude to Union Railway Minister Aswini Vaishnav to take prompt initiative in addressing the issue. Dr Saha also thanked people to co-operate with the Government during the crisis period.
Earlier, as the crisis prevailed, the Chief Minister wrote a letter to Vaishnav requesting to solve the issue urgently.
Tripura is grappling with a severe fuel crisis due to disruptions in rail traffic caused by landslides after a landslide on April 26 occurred on the Jatinga-Harang railway line in Assam.
This severely disrupted rail communication. As a result, fuel supplies to Tripura were severely affected, leading to long queues at petrol pumps and widespread inconvenience for the public.
The closure of vital rail lines exacerbated the existing shortage, and the shutdown of key roads further restricted the movement of fuel tankers.
Reports of protests and unruly situations at petrol pumps have emerged as fuel stocks ran dry. Motorists faced long queues and uncertainty about fuel availability in Agartala and other parts of the State.
Even as no major chaos was reported, Police had to intervene in Agartala after a brawl broke out at a city based petrol pump. However, the situation was soon brought under control.
As Tripura navigates this challenging period, the Chief Minister's initiative and the collective efforts of officials and railway authorities will remain crucial in addressing the crisis and mitigating the sufferings of people.
