In a unique initiative to foster family harmony and promote maternal and child health, a "Sas Bahu Sammelan" (Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law Conference) was organized at the Rajmohan Para Anganwadi Centre under the Singirbil Ayushman Arogya Mandir at Unakoti District in Tripura.

The event, falling under the jurisdiction of Kanika Memorial Primary Health Centre, witnessed active participation from 28 local residents, including mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law from the community.

Organized under the Mission Parivar Vikas program, the Sas Bahu Sammelan aimed at raising awareness about key issues concerning family planning, maternal and newborn care, and the role of intergenerational understanding in ensuring a healthy and supportive household environment.

Health workers facilitated insightful discussions on various critical topics, such as the responsibilities of mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law in maintaining familial peace, the importance of institutional deliveries for expectant mothers, the need to prevent child marriages, and the risks associated with early pregnancy.

A notable highlight of the program was the distribution of 'Nayi Pehli Kits' to two newlywed couples, highlighting the importance of informed and planned parenthood. Additionally, to promote nutrition and overall well-being, nutritious food was provided to all attendees, reinforcing the significance of a balanced diet for expectant mothers and young children.

The event was attended by the presence of Maloy Debbarma, MPW of Singirbil Ayushman Arogya Mandir, along with ASHA workers Rupavati Debbarma and Basanti Debbarma, who played an instrumental role in engaging the community and spreading awareness about essential health measures.

According to one of the participants, by facilitating open conversations relating to roles and responsibilities of mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law, the Sas Bahu Sammelan will be successful in strengthening familial bonds and encourage mutual respect, and reinforce the crucial role of women in shaping a healthy and supportive family structure.

“Such programs not only enhance public health outcomes but also contribute to a more cohesive and understanding society, where traditional values align with modern healthcare practices for the well-being of all family members, one participating mother-in law commented.

The Family Welfare and Disease Prevention Department of Tripura, in its press release, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in empowering families with knowledge and resources to make informed decisions, ultimately ensuring a healthier and happier community.
