Suspected cattle lifting sparks tension, 2 vehicles set ablaze

Tension ran high at Matabari area following suspected cattle lifting-- angry mob set two vehicles afire.
Finally, police intervened into the matter and brought the situation under control.

According to local reports, multiple incidents of cattle lifting were reported from Chandrapur and some other areas in Udaipur sub-division over the past few days.

Today, the local people detained the two vehicles (bolero) loaded with 10 cattle near Udaipur Matabari. They caught four persons- drivers and co drivers of the vehicles and took them to old Matabari school ground.

When the local people inquired about the cattle being carried in the vehicles, there was incoherence in the statements made by the four persons. It had not only given a shape to the doubt prevailing among the local people, but also led them to become furious following which the angry mob set the two vehicles on fire.

As a result, the situation turned volatile within a few minutes. When the fire fighters reached the spot to save the burning vehicles, they had to face the public fury. Even the media persons who went to cover the incident had also faced the same situation.

In the meantime, local police reached the spot and picked up the four persons to their custody at Radha Kishorepur police station. The situation returned to normalcy after the police assured a thorough investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, TSR personnel in sufficient numbers were deployed to avoid any further untoward incident.

While police claimed the situation was tense but well under control, the local people alleged that police’s performance in checking the cattle lifting was very poor which virtually led them to hit the streets on Wednesday.
