SVEEP Program in Agartala: Empowering Citizens for the Upcoming LS Elections
As the Lok Sabha elections are coming up, the biggest democratic festival in the world, Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), was organized by the Agartala branch of the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) of the Government of India and in collaboration with the State Chief Electoral Officer.to increase the enthusiasm among the young and old voters in the state and to encourage the participation of every citizen in the vote, a one-day awareness program,
The program was held at the Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) in Narsingarh in Agartala. The chief guest on the occasion was Additional Chief Electoral Officer Shubhashis Bandyopadhyay, TIT Director Vijay Kumar Upadhyay, Dean-Academics Jhunnu Debbarma, and CBC Agartala branch official Sudipta Kar.
The chief guest of the program, Chief Electoral Officer Shubhashis Bandyopadhyay, appealed to every citizen to vote without compromise. He said that the Election Commission of India has been running SVEEP since 2009 to educate and make voters aware of voting. Later, the Election Commission launched some apps including C-VIGIL so that voters can complain about various issues in the electoral process and get information.
He further said that we should not spend the election day sitting at home thinking of it as just another holiday, but we should vote early in the morning. It is the duty of each of us.
The Chief Electoral Officer called upon all the students and new voters to come forward to vote and requested their guardians and neighbors to take the responsibility of going to the polling station and casting their votes.
The distinguished guests, TIT Director Vijay Kumar Upadhyay and Dean-Academics Jhunnu Debbarma, emphasized the importance of voting to the students.
A quiz was organised on India and the general elections among the students present at the program. On the occasion, the students were administered an oath to vote as ideal citizens.
