The Gandachhara Sub-Divisional Administration of Government of Tripura has stood by the side of family members of four fishermen who died in Dumboor lake mishap on Saturday night.

Amidst a pall of gloom, the local administration provided preliminary financial assistance to the member of four victims' families on Monday.

Bodies of the three fishermen were recovered on Sunday while remain one was recovered on Monday.

Deputy Collector (DC) of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate's Office, Anindya Chakraborty, along with the personnel of the Natural Disaster Response Force, visited the houses of the deceased Pradip Das, Haridas, Jyotish Mallick and Sanjit Nandi one by one. During the visit, the officials interacted with the bereaved family members and handed over a preliminary financial assistance of Rs 15,000 each to the family members.

The sum will help the family members to perform the Shradh (post-funeral rites) of their loved ones.

During the interaction, Chakraborty further informed the family members to submit the death certificates along with other necessary documents to the Gandachhara Sub-Divisional Magistrate's Office within a day or two.

"Efforts are being made to provide the bereaved families with substantial government assistance as soon as possible", officials said.

Notably, soon after the report of the tragedy came out, Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha assured that the State Government would stand by the side of the victims' families and would provide assistance as per the Natural Disaster Management rules.

An official of the Dhalai District administration said that the fishermen often stay in the makeshift ‘Mancha’ to carry out fishing in the giant Dumboor Lake, a famous fishing water body.

Late on Saturday night, the makeshift ‘Mancha’ collapsed due to the Norwester wind and rain and the four fishermen fell into the deep water of the lake and died.
