Tripura News: Alleged witchcraft may be reason behind murder of Munda couple

Witch hunting may be the prime reason behind the sensational murder of a couple – Bandhan Munda and Mukutmani Munda - at Khowai on July 20 last. The couple was hacked to death on that night while they were returning to theor home at a village under Khowai after attending an invitation at the house of one Ratan Jhara.

Police immediately started investigation and picked up Ratan Jhara and Dilu Orang – however, the prime accused, Satish Ranjan Debbarma committed suicide before Police could arrest him.

Meanwhile, one of the accused persons in the murder case, Dilu Orang was produced before the Court after his 5-day Police remand was over. The Court sent him to 14-day Jail Remand.

According to the sources, it is learnt, wife of Dilu Orang went to a Kabiraj at Sundartila village under Simna for a medical condition she was suffering from.

The Kabiraj reportedly blamed the Munda couple for practicing witchcraft for the sickness of the wife of Dilu Orang. He also expressed doubts as to whether Dilu’s wife could be cured.

After knowing this, Dilu Orang decided to take revenge and shared all the details with one Satish Ranjan Debbarma who in turn consulted four other persons.

A murder plan was chalked out and accordingly, Satish Ranjan Debbarma stabbed the couple multiple times and killed the couple.

Satish’s name came up as prime accused. However, before Police could arrest him, Satish committed suicide. As a result, the knife used to kill the couple remained untraced. Hunt is on for four persons who were named by Dilu Orang during interrogation.

However, the prime reason behind the murder is yet to be confirmed by the Police.
