Matricide: killer held

In a shocking incident of matricide, one 65 years old woman was bludgeoned to death at Bishalgarh area on Saturday evening. Sources said, the deceased woman was identified as Babli Chowdhury Laskar. She hailed from Raghunathpur Ward 8 under Bishalgarh. Sources said, Tushar Laskar, son of the deceased woman, started hitting her repeatedly until she died. Locals rushed to her rescue in vain. Later, Police arrested Tushar Laskar.

Road accident: One dead

In a road mishap, a 37 years old Sibhash Malakar of Malakar Basti at North Laljhuri under North Tripura died last night. Sources said, he was driving his own Commander vehicle. However, he along with the vehicle fell on a 70-feet gorge near Damchhera area while he was traveling from Kanchanpur to Jalebasha area. He died after he was crushed under the vehicle while falling into the gorge. Later, Fire service personnel and Police from Joysri outpost reached the spot and recovered the body.

Food safety officer detained

One Food Safety Officer Dayal Ram Das was detained by Santirbazar Police on Saturday. Police sources said the Officer was detained on the basis of complaints of SDM Arghya Saha. When contacted the SDM remained tight-lipped and did not disclose the reasons behind the detention of Ram Das.

Meanwhile, the detention of the Food Safety Officer on the basis of complaints by the SDM has raised many an eyebrow. Speculation is running high as the SDM refused to speak with the media on the issue.

Ram Das, however, made a statement that could not be verified.
