Raju Barman, the main accused in the murder of Bharat Ratna Club secretary, Durga Prasanna Deb aka Vicky, was brought to the state from Guwahati on Thursday. He was brought to Agartala airport around noon. Police officials said that he would be presented in court today. The tragic incident occurred on April 30, when Vicky was fatally shot by unknown assailants in the Shalbagan area of Agartala.

Following the murder, Vicky’s family, particularly his wife, accused Raju Barman and Biman Das of orchestrating the crime. Acting on these accusations, the police launched a detailed investigation.

Following the police investigation, even as Police arrested six persons including two women in connection with the murder of Vicky, the prime accused person, Raju Barman was absconding and Police were unable to trace him.

In a major breakthrough on Wednesday (July 10) in the ongoing investigation, a team of the Tripura Police nabbed Raju Barman, the prime accused, from the Chhatabari area under the Bako Police Station in Guwahati.

Police sources said that among persons accused of murder and conspiracy against slain Vicky or Durga Prasanna Deb, members of Raju Barman’s core team Biman Das, Pravakar Ghosh, Debabrata Barman and Sukanta Gupta are still absconding and remain to be arrested.

After the killing of Vicky on April 30, his wife claimed that her husband had revealed to her that the gang led by Raju Barman had been trying to harm him. It was on the day of the murder that responding to a call from his wife, Vicky had told her that he was going to the house of Biman Das, a close accomplice of Raju Barman, in Bamutia but on the way Vicky had been shot dead near the Shalbagan BSF headquarter.
