Tripura news: Storm damages Houses and Lightning kills one in Sabroom, power outage in Dharmanagar

A storm accompanied by strong winds and thunderstruck Sabroom in the South Tripura district early Sunday morning, causing widespread damage and leaving one person dead.

The storm, which lasted for about 20 minutes, caused extensive damage to homes and businesses across the entire Sabroom subdivision. Around 20 houses were completely destroyed, and many more were partially damaged. The storm also caused significant damage to the bamboo-made vegetable stalls in Sabroom Bazar.

One person, Damaram Mog (55), from Abahimag Para in Rupaichhari block, was killed when he was struck by lightning during the storm.

The Sabroom subdivision administration's disaster response team started rescue and relief operations this morning. DCM Manoj Prabhakar Pal, Ratankumar Das, and other officials were supervising the work.

The DCM said that efforts are underway to restore essential services as quickly as possible. Large trees that had fallen and blocked important roads in the town have been removed. In addition, concerned tehsildars are assessing the damage to houses.

Sabroom is still without power as of filing the report. A source from private power company FIDCO said the company is working to restore power, but could not confirm whether power would be restored by tonight.

Like the Southernmost of the State, Sabroom, thunderstorms along with heavy rail lashed out in the Northernmost areas in Dhanrmanagar causing water-logging on several streets and disrupting traffic. Knee-deep water was seen on DNB Road, Kadamtala Kurti Road, Nayapara Road, and other areas, making it difficult for pedestrians to move around.

Power supply was also disrupted in Dharmanagar town and adjoining villages. There is widespread resentment among the residents, who allege that the power department is indifferent to their plight. They say that they have to face power outages for hours on end, regardless of whether it is raining or not.
