Tripura: Vijaya Dasami marks end of 5-day Durga Puja

The Vijaya Dasami on Friday marked the end of the five-day long Durga Puja. In Tripura, immersions of Durga idols have started and several households as well as small clubs have immersed the idols in rivers.

 

In Agartala, following the tradition of monarchical era, first the Durga idol of Prabhu Bari followed by the 183-year old puja of erstwhile Manikya dynasty of Tripura at Durgabari Temple was immersed at the Dasami Ghat of Haora River in Agartala today.

 

As per the tradition, Tripura Police gave a ‘guard of honor’ to the Durgabari idol before the immersion.

 

On the auspicious Vijaya Dasami, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and his wife visited famous Laxmi Narayan Temple in Agartala and offered prayers there.

 

Vijaya Dasami signifies the victory of virtuous force against the forces of evil. On this people are greeting each other with ‘Shubha Bijaya’ wish. On the Dasami, women devotees offer sweets to Maa Durga and invite her in advance to visit earth the next year. Also, womenfolk splashed vermilion on each other’s face in an act known as Sindur Khela and wished Shubha Bijaya to each other.

 

To ensure safety and disciple, adequate security arrangements were taken at Dasami Ghat in Agartala today. Besides, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) staffs were deputed in the Ghat to help in immersion. Similar security arrangements made in district and sub-division levels.

 

On the day of Vijaya Dasami, fish markets and Sweet shops in the State, especially in Agartala recorded a good spike in sales. Offering sweets to guests on this day is a custom. Also, having a delectable lunch with family members is common.

 

Notably, large number of revelers hit the streets in Agartala on Sashthi, Saptami, Ashtami and Navami nights and eateries made a brisk business.
