Two Arrested in Tripura with Heroin Worth Rs 25 Crore, CM praises Police

North Tripura Police has once again achieved success on Monday in its anti-drug drive. Damchhara Police Station in the North Tripura District arrested two persons with heroin worth around Rs 25 crore.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, buoyed at  the success, hailed the efforts of the police. 

Tripura-police-seize-heroin-rs-25-crore-2-arrestedIn a social media post, Dr Saha referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and wrote, "Tripura Police is leaving no stone unturned to achieve the goal of #NashaMuktBharat by Hon’ble PM @narendramodiJi".

He further wrote, "In the North District, Tripura Police intercepted a vehicle & seized a significant 2.212 kg of heroin having  estimated value of Rs 25 Crores. Two individuals have also been apprehended for the same".

Police received a tip-off and accordingly Damchhara Police Station set up a trap. They stopped and searched a Hyundai car bearing registration number TR 01 BW 0595. During the search, 177 plastic packets were recovered. The packets contained total 2 kg 212 grams of heroin, police said.

Both the arrested persons hail from the bordering Sonamura area under Sepahijala district of Tripura. The two arrested were identified as Sahidul Rahman, 35, son of late Siddikul Rahman and Jasimuddin, 35, son of Alkas Mia.

North Tripura Police Superintendent Bhanu Pada Chakraborty said the market value of the seized heroin would be around Rs 25 crore. 

This is the first major success of the North Tripura Police in seizing narcotics in a long time, police superintendent Bhanu Pada Chakraborty said.
