Violence at Kaiturbari, Gandachhara: Tripura Opposition MLAs blame it on police inaction

Even as Chief Minister of Tripura Dr Manik Saha asserted that no one would be spared in case of recent instances of violence at Gandachhara and Kaiturbari, the Opposition parties alleged Police inaction in preventing the violence.

The opposition also demanded action against the ‘erring’ Police officers.

Chief Minister assured the lawmakers that Miscreants had no political or religious affiliations. The law would take its course. No one would be spared while reply on a Calling Attention Notice of Islam Uddin and Ramu Das in the Assembly on Friday on the recent violence at Kaiturbari under the Jirania sub-division.

Commenting on the issue, CPIM and Congress MLAs condemned the incidents at Kaiturbari and Gandachhara and held the Police inaction responsible for the trouble in which several innocent villagers’ houses and properties were set on fire and destroyed.

The Opposition MLAs said that during the occurrence of the incidents at gandachhara and Kaiturbari, they had talks with concerned officials who assured them that large contingent of police teams were deployed in the troubled areas.

Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Choudhury said, "I had a telephonic talk with concerned Police Officer when I came to know about the trouble at the Kaiturbari. The Police Officer assured me and told me he along with a strong police force already reached the spot".

Alleging Police inaction, Choudhury said despite the assurance and presence of police miscreants ran amok and destroyed as well as set on fire houses of villagers.

Choudhury and other Opposition MLAs wondered how the miscreants could create such troubles in presence of police. They demanded punitive actions against the responsible Police officers.

In reply, the Chief Minister detailed the actions taken by the Police to disperse the trouble makers and quell the tension. He also presented information on the number of persons arrested for creating the troubles.
