Tripura to implement National Food Security Act from Sept 1
State Cabinet of Tripura on 27 August 2015 decided to implement the National Food Security Act (NFSA). The NFSA will be come into effect from 1 September 2015 and will be continued till 2021.
Implementation of the Act will make Tripura the first state to implement the NFSA in entire north-eastern region.
Its implementation will benefit over 25 lakh people from more than six lakh families of the state. This would cause an extra burden of over 16.73 crore rupees on the State Government in the form of subsidy.
National Food Security Act (NFSA): The National Food Security Act (NFSA) came into effect on 5 July 2013. It aims at providing legal entitlement to 5 kg of subsidised foodgrains per person per month at 1 rupee to 3 rupees per kilogram to two-thirds (67 percent) of the country’s population.

Manipur Legislative Assembly passes ‘Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015’
Manipur Legislative Assembly on 31 August 2015 unanimously passed the Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015. The House also unanimously passed two amendment bills, namely the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2015 and the Manipur Shops and Establishments (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015.
The three Bills were introduced in the House on 28 August 2015 to protect indigenous people.
The Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015 was moved in the Assembly for consideration and passage by State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, while the two other bills were moved by Revenue Minister Thoudam Debendra and Labour Minister Irengbam Hemochandra respectively.
Apart from this, the house also passed a resolution welcoming the Peace Accord signed between the Union Government and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN)-IM. The resolution was moved by Chief Minister Ibobi Singh.
While moving the resolution the Chief Minister said, Manipur is a mini India and the fresh initiative of the Union Government and the NSCN (IM) to bring peace in the north eastern India is welcomed by all.
He further said that the state government requested the Union Government about the details of the Accord to remove the apprehension of the people of the state to which the Centre has replied that it is only a framework.

Modi releases digital recordings of epic Ramcharitmanas on 31 August
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 31 August 2015 released digital recordings of epic Ramcharitmanas, as a set of digital CDs produced by All India Radio (AIR).
Digital recordings of the epic is a part of AIR’s attempt to go digital in a big way so that the public broadcaster can reach audiences globally.
The recordings of Goswami Tulsidas work, sung by leading singers of Bhopal gharana, have been done by the AIR over several years and are regularly broadcast especially in the Hindi heartland.
The Ramcharitmanas was composed and recorded for the first time in 1980 at Akashvani Bhopal.

Union Government launched SAHAJ scheme
Union Government on 30 August 2015 launched a scheme named SAHAJ for online release of new LPG connections for the consumers. The scheme launched by Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan can be availed through the portal mylpg.in.
At present, the scheme will be available in 13 cities of the country, namely Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna and Pune. It will be launched pan-India within the next few days.
SAHAJ facility will enable the prospective customers to post online request for a new connection by filing Know Your Customer (KYC) form, uploading photographs and bank account details. After submission, the customer will receive the registration number to know the connection status.
It also provides the facility to choose the mode of payment, which may be online or offline mode of payment for connection. Electronic subscription voucher will be mailed to the customer and physical delivery of the Gas cylinder, regulator with hose pipe will be made by the distributor.

Call To Action Summit 2015
The Call To Action Summit 2015 on ending preventable child and maternal deaths was held on 27 August and 28 August 2015 in New Delhi.
The summit was a prelude to the United Nations Summit for the adoption of post-2015 development agenda that will be held in September 2015 in New York.
During the summit, the participants took stock of progress, best practices for ending preventable child and maternal deaths and discussed further steps to be taken in the area.
Further, The Every Woman Every Child (EWEC) movement initiated by the UN Secretary General office was also a pivotal area for deliberations at the Summit.
The summit was co hosted by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health, USAID, UNICEF, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Tata Trusts and attended by 24 priority countries that committed to the global Call to Action for Child Survival in June 2012.
India was selected to host the summit for the first time outside the USA because of her huge strides in ending preventable child and maternal deaths in recent times.

Syrian woman Journalist Zaina Erhaim awarded with Peter Mackler Award 2015
Syrian woman journalist Zaina Erhaim on 22 August 2015 won the esteemed 2015 Peter Mackler Award for Courageous and Ethical Journalism. She was bestowed this award for her efforts to train citizen reporters in her war-ravaged country.
She will be presented with this award at a ceremony to be held at the National Press Club in Washington in October 2015.

Zaina Erhaim, currently, lives and works in Aleppo, Syria. Over the last two years, she has trained about 100 citizen reporters from inside Syria, approximately one third of them are women, in print and TV journalism.
Erhaim is also the Syria project coordinator for the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR), an international organization that support journalists in countries undergoing conflict, crisis, or transition.
