Six more nursing candidates from Tripura are set to leave for Japan under the Specified Skill Worker (SSW) program. An event was organized in Agartala on Mar 14 to felicitate the successful candidates. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, in presence of Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Commerce Minister Santana Chakma and other dignitaries encouraged the candidates and felicitated them.

Notably, in a move aimed at expanding international employment opportunities, the Government of India and the Government of Japan have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to promote the Specified Skill Worker (SSW) Program. This initiative seeks to provide Indian professionals, particularly in the healthcare sector, with long-term career opportunities in Japan.

As part of this effort, the Directorate of Skill Development, Government of Tripura, in collaboration with NSDC International, has successfully facilitated the recruitment of a nursing candidate for a prestigious nursing care position in Japan. This initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to equipping youth with global employment prospects.

SSW Program: A Gateway to Lucrative Careers in Japan

The Specified Skill Worker (SSW) Program is a newly introduced residency status in Japan, enabling skilled Indian candidates to work in the country for an extended period. Under this initiative, enrolled candidates undergo a nine-month, full-time residential Japanese language training program in Greater Noida, accredited by NSDC International. The training includes essential nursing knowledge and skills required to meet Japan’s healthcare standards.

Upon successfully passing the Japanese language proficiency test and clearing interviews, candidates are placed in reputed healthcare institutions across Japan. Additionally, they receive boarding and lodging support throughout their training period.

So far, the Directorate of Skill Development, Tripura, has mobilized 21 candidates to New Delhi for language training. Of these, three candidates have already begun their nursing careers in Japan, and six more are scheduled to depart this year.

Tripura’s Candidates Secure Prestigious Jobs in Japan

Among those who have secured employment in Japan under this program are:

✅  Diptanu Sarkar (Dhaleswar, Agartala)
✅  Trishna Sarkar (Udaipur, Gomati)
✅  Taniya Das (Konaban)

These individuals have been offered lucrative salary packages exceeding INR 1 lakh per month, setting a new benchmark for international employment opportunities in Tripura’s workforce.

Besides, Priyanka Mahajan, Sajjadur Rahaman, Jannat Begum, Parsomi Betu, and Suparna Sarkar are preparing to depart for Japan in July 2025, while Priyanka Deb is set to leave in April 2025. They too will receive salaries over INR 1 lakh per month.

Felicitation Ceremony to Recognize Achievements

To celebrate the success of these candidates, the Government of Tripura has organized a felicitation ceremony on 14 March at 2:30 PM in the Conference Hall of the Chief Minister’s official residence. During this event, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha acknowledged their achievements and encouraged aspiring candidates to take advantage of opportunities.

Future Prospects Under the MMDUP Scheme

Looking ahead, the Directorate of Skill Development, Tripura, under the MMDUP Scheme, aims to send 60 more candidates to Japan in the upcoming financial year. This initiative is backed by financial support from the North Eastern Council, ensuring that candidates receive comprehensive assistance, including:

✔ Full funding for Japanese language training
✔ Coverage of travel expenses
✔ Support for other necessary costs

By bearing these expenses, the government ensures that talented nursing candidates from Tripura can pursue global career opportunities without financial constraints.
