Agartala (Tripura), July 21: In a significant step to support the state’s farmers, the Tripura government has announced the commencement of direct paddy procurement for the Rabi season at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) starting July 26.
The initiative, a joint effort by the Department of Food, Public Distribution, and Consumer Affairs and the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, aims to procure over 14 lakh metric tons of paddy, ensuring farmers receive fair compensation for their efforts.
A high-level meeting was held today at the Secretariat’s video conference hall, chaired by key state officials, including Sushanta Chowdhury, Minister of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection, and Ratan Lal Nath, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
The meeting focused on reviewing preparations and addressing critical aspects of the procurement process to safeguard farmers’ interests. Attendees included Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons of various Panchayat Samitis, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, Block Development Officers, Deputy Directors of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, Agricultural Supervisors, and other officials from both departments.
The discussions, conducted via video conference, underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring a seamless and transparent procurement process across the state.

The initiative reflects our dedication to ensuring that farmers’ hard work is duly rewarded, said Minister Sushanta Chowdhury. Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to make the procurement drive a success.
With preparations in full swing, the state government is poised to roll out the MSP procurement process at various locations, aiming to bolster the agricultural economy and provide financial security to Tripura’s farming community.
