The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has reported further improvement in the flood situation in the state, with fewer than 20,000 people remaining affected as of Friday.
This marks a significant decline compared to the figures from the previous days.
According to the ASDMA, approximately 38,000 people were impacted on Thursday, while the number stood at 83,000 on Wednesday. However, the current count reveals that around 19,656 individuals are still grappling with the aftermath of the floods.
Several districts in Assam, including Barpeta, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, and the independent Bajali sub-division, experienced flooding during this calamity.
However, no casualties have been reported from any part of the state as of Friday. The floods have claimed the lives of seven individuals thus far.
ASDMA also highlighted that within the last 24 hours, 25 embankments suffered damage in the districts of Nalbari, Barpeta, Dhubri, Karimganj, and Sonitpur.
In addition to embankments, irrigation canals, roads, bridges, and culverts in Nalbari, Chirang, Sonitpur, Dhubri, and Goalpara districts have been adversely affected.
Reports of erosion have emerged from Chirang, Jorhat, and Sonitpur, further adding to the challenges faced by the affected communities.
The authorities continue to work on addressing the damages and providing relief to those affected by the floods. Efforts are being made to restore infrastructure and minimize the impact on the livelihoods of the affected population.
As the situation gradually improves, the people of Assam hope for a swift recovery and relief from the devastating consequences of the floods. (Edited)
