Development of Nagaland: FNTA Pact, Viksit Nagaland @2047 and Hornbill

Gist: The Nagaland Assembly hails the historic FNTA tripartite agreement as a turning point for Eastern Nagaland. The Viksit Nagaland @2047 roadmap aim to bridge regional disparities and ensure long-term peace.

Agartala, Mar 3: The formation of the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) dominated discussions in the Nagaland Assembly, with legislators describing the pact as a major step toward balanced development and long-term peace.

At the same time, members reiterated the state’s commitment to achieving Viksit Nagaland @2047.

Tripartite FNTA Agreement Gains Political Support

On February 5, the Centre, the Nagaland government, and the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) signed a tripartite agreement in New Delhi.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio witnessed the signing ceremony.

Under the agreement, the government will devolve powers over 46 subjects to six eastern districts.

Therefore, the move aims to strengthen administrative autonomy and accelerate grassroots development in Eastern Nagaland.

MLA Kuzholuzo Nienu welcomed the Memorandum of Agreement and congratulated ENPO for its sustained efforts.

He said the FNTA pact could usher in peace, unity, and faster socio-economic growth in the eastern region. Moreover, he called for collective responsibility to ensure smooth implementation.

For more than 15 years, ENPO has led a movement demanding a separate Frontier Nagaland Territory or full statehood.

The proposed region includes Kiphire, Longleng, Mon, Noklak, Shamator, and Tuensang districts.

Leaders believe the FNTA framework will address long-standing grievances and developmental gaps in these areas.

Viksit Nagaland @2047: Long-Term Development Roadmap

During the debate, MLA Ar. Jwenga said Nagaland continues to move forward despite financial constraints.

He stressed that the state aligns its policies with the national goal of Viksit Bharat @2047 while pursuing its own roadmap for Viksit Nagaland @2047.

He added that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s leadership has given direction to this long-term vision.

According to him, the FNTA agreement complements the broader development strategy. It aims to ensure inclusive growth, regional balance, and stronger governance structures.

However, Jwenga also urged the government to address disparities in central Nagaland. He called for focused welfare schemes and targeted economic programmes for weaker sections.

Leaders across party lines agreed that the FNTA pact and the Viksit Nagaland @2047 vision must work together.

Together, they aim to build a peaceful, empowered, and economically strong Nagaland by 2047. (With IANS inputs)
