Agartala, July 25, 2019: The process of vocal campaigning for the ensuing three-tier Panchayat elections scheduled to be held on July 27 ended today.
The vocal campaigns in the state were, largely, peaceful – however, opposition parties alleged few scattered incidents and political intimidation.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has already won over 90 percent seats uncontested. Opposition parties – CPIM, Congress and IPFT fielded their candidates in very few of the total seats for which polls will be conducted on July 27 from 7am.
Notably, altogether, 833 Panchayat seats, 82 Panchayat samity seats and 79 Zila Parishads are going to polls on the day of polls. According to official data, the ruling party fielded candidates in almost all the 6,111 Panchayat, 419 Panchayat Samity and 116 Zila Parishad seats all over the state.
Whereas, the CPIM is contesting in 305 Gram Panchayat seats, 56 Panchayat Samity seats and 67 Zila Parishad seats. The Congress party has filed nomination in 611 Gram Panchayat seats, 60 Panchayat Samity seats and 63 Zila Parishad seats. And, the IPFT is in contest of 37 Panchayat seats, 02 Panchayat Samity seats.
