Agartala, Mar 19, 2019: In a surprising ‘return home’ move, BJP vice president of Tripura, Subal Bhowmik joined Congress today in Agartala. Before joining Congress, Bhowmik in his FB post wrote : ‘Enough is enough’. After joining Congress, Bhowmik came down heavily on BJP as well as Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
In presence of bigwigs of State Congress including TPCC chief Pradyot Kishor Debbarma, AICC secretary Bhupen Bora, former TPCC Chief Birajit Sinha, former chief Minister Samir Barman, ex-MLA Gopal Roy and other leaders, Subal Bhowmik formally threw his weight behind Congress. Two other leaders – former Minister Prakash Das and Debasish Sen also joined Congress alongwith Bhowmik.
Just one prior to Congress chief Rahul Gandhi’s Tripura visit, Subal Bhowmik’s joining is likely to boost morale of State Congress.
It is important to note that, former TPCC Chief Birajit Sinha who fired verbal salvo at incumbent TPCC Debbarma on last night – was also present in today’s joining programme and raised hands with Debbarma sending a message of unity.
Subal Bhowmik’s decision to quit BJP and join Congress just when Lok Sabha polls is drawing closer, has baffled many. “While everyone was focusing on IPFT-INPT and speculating on BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate, it seems Subal Bhowmik silently chalked out his plans and hogged limelight”, said one Agartala-based veteran journalist today.
