Agartala, Jun 18, 2019: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb laid the foundation stone for five projects under the Smart City Mission in Agartala today and stressed on developing a green mindset for maintaining smartness of the City. Total expenditure for implementation of these projects was pegged at Rs 18 . 40 crore. Along with the ‘Smart City’ project implementation, Deb reiterated State Government’s resolve in making Tripura a ‘Model State’ in three years. He sought people’s co-operation and involvement in realizing twin goals for overall betterment of the State and its people.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, Smart City projects will improve quality of city life and will focus on restoring ecological balance for a healthy living. He also underlined importance of building ‘smart mentality’ among city dwellers. Focusing on fund for maintenance of projects, he indicated possibility of a tax raise after completion of works around two years time-period.
The Chief Minister today laid foundation stone for five projects – Upgrading MBB Road, renovation of lakes around MBB road, Rejuvenation of Ranirpukur pond near Ginger Hotel, the second lake of Dimsagar and setting up modern Bus stand at 20 different places in Agartala.
“State Government with assistance from the Central Government sketch plans for making Agartala a Smart City. The plan will be accomplished by creating several user-friendly and eco-friendly facilities like Integrated Traffic Control System, GPS installation in buses, ambulances and other vehicles, Bus stands fitted with modern facilities, setting up Parks for beautification of the city, fixing automatic number plate on vehicles, development of important roads, construction of Integrated Check Post etc. This collaborative effort of the State and the Union Government will cost around Rs 2062 crore”, Biplab Deb said.
“Making Agartala a Smart City is not the sole target, but smart mindset among the city dwellers needs to be cultivated. After completion of project works, people will have to take responsibility of maintaining beautification installations and greenery”, Deb said. Beautification as well as creating a green city for healthy life is twin prime goals – among other – which will be accomplished under the Smart City Mission, he asserted.
