Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram, the Architect of Modern Tripura Observed

Agartala, Aug 19 – Tripura paid glowing tributes to Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur today on his 117th birth anniversary. Known as the Architect of Modern Tripura, the late monarch’s legacy was celebrated with state-level programmes, floral tributes, and cultural events.

The central observance took place at Zero Point at Kaman Chowmuhani in Agartala, where Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumdar, and other dignitaries offered floral tributes at his statue.

Paying rich tributes to Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha highlighted the his visionary legacy. Referring to Maharaja’s vision on education, Dr Saha said, the BJP-led government in Tripura is working tirelessly to achieve his vision.

Attending another observance event at the Rabindra Bhawan, Dr Saha said, “Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur—the architect of modern Tripura, played a pivotal role in building the state’s infrastructure and laid the foundation for education and healthcare.

His farsighted legacy continues to guide us in shaping a model Tripura. Over the last seven years, our government has been consistently working towards inclusive growth, peace, and progress.”

Similar commemorations were held across the state to honour his contribution to modern Tripura’s foundation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President J.P. Nadda also remembered Maharaja Bir Bikram on social media.

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi paid tributes to Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur on his birth anniversary. Modi said that Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Ji is admired for his exemplary efforts in developing Tripura.

His passion for public service, commitment to empowering the poor and dedication to social upliftment continue to inspire us greatly, the PM further added.

In an X post, PM Modi wrote, “Remembering Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Ji on his birth anniversary. He is admired for his exemplary efforts in developing Tripura. His passion for public service, commitment to empowering the poor and dedication to social upliftment continue to inspire us greatly. The Central Government and the Government of Tripura are working tirelessly to realise his vision”.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah recalled him as the “Architect of Modern Tripura,” praising his farsighted reforms in education, infrastructure, and governance.

“Homage to Tripura Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur Ji on his Jayanti. He is remembered as the ‘Architect of Modern Tripura,’ whose farsighted reforms in education, infrastructure, and governance laid the foundation for the state’s progress. His legacy continues to inspire generations,” Shah said.

The Tripura BJP also marked the day with a programme at its state office, where State Vice-president Subal Bhowmik, Mayor Deepak Majumdar, ADC MDC Bidyut Debbarma, and other leaders paid floral tributes before the Maharaja’s portrait.

Adding to the commemorations, TIPRA Motha supremo and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarma attended the release of a special postal cover and inaugurated a two-day exhibition on Maharaja Bir Bikram’s life and contributions.

Speaking on the occasion, Pradyot remarked, “His vision for our state and region was far ahead of his time. Maharaja Bir Bikram continues to inspire me to stand up for what is right.”

Across Tripura, cultural programmes, exhibitions, and community gatherings highlighted the Maharaja’s role in shaping modern education, urban planning, and governance, reinforcing his legacy as one of the most influential figures in Tripura’s history.
