Tripura doctors script success in handling a rare breech birth at a Primary Health Centre (PHC).
Motai (South Tripura) Aug 25 : A rare medical success was recorded today at Motai Primary Health Centre in South Tripura, where doctors and health staff carried out a safe normal delivery in a complicated breech case. The achievement has been hailed as a milestone for the region, highlighting medical expertise and commitment under pressure.
The patient, 26-year-old Shakti Debi Tripura of Rajibon Para, reached the health centre around 5 am accompanied by her husband, Akash Tripura, and Avmala Tripura. She was experiencing severe labor pain and bleeding. While preliminary sonography reports indicated a normal delivery position, complications arose when one leg of the baby emerged—signaling a breech presentation, where the child’s head remains upward and legs downward, making delivery highly risky.
Typically, such cases are referred immediately to advanced hospitals. However, the family informed doctors that shifting her to a higher facility was not possible at that moment. With time running out and limited resources at hand, the onus of saving both mother and child fell on the attending medical team.
Medical Officer-in-Charge Dr. Paiphrwu Mog, Assistant Doctor Subrajit Bhattacharjee, and Nursing Officer Panchadebi Jamatia stepped forward to manage the crisis. Relying on their training, patience, and determination, the team worked relentlessly for nearly two hours.
At 7:40 a.m., their efforts bore fruit—a healthy baby boy weighing 2.6 kg was delivered safely. Both mother and child are reported to be in stable condition.

The successful delivery has sparked joy and pride across Motai. Locals are praising the medical staff for their bravery and dedication, calling the event a symbol of teamwork and resilience.
For the doctors and health workers at Motai PHC, this was not merely a delivery but proof that even in resource-constrained settings, extraordinary results can be achieved with skill and determination.
