Security Breach at Tripura MLA Hostel: TMP legislators meet CM Dr Manik Saha
Agartala Sep 2: A late-night security breach at the newly constructed MLA Hostel in Agartala has triggered serious concerns over the safety of legislators in Tripura and security arrangements for the elected representatives.
Three alleged drunken youths reportedly entered the premises on Monday, hurled abuses and death threats at Kanchanpur’s Tipra Motha Party, ruling BJP’s ally in Tripura, MLA Philip Kumar Reang, and fled before police could act. The incident, coming ahead of the TTAADC elections, has intensified demands for stronger security measures and a thorough probe.
The incident late Monday night has raised serious concerns about the security infrastructure surrounding elected representatives in Tripura.
“Three intoxicated youths drove into the newly constructed MLA Hostel near the ILS Hospital complex in Agartala on Monday night and hurled abusive language and death threats at MLA Philip Kumar Reang”, sources alleged.
The MLA, taken aback by the sudden and aggressive intrusion, immediately called for help. Even as the newly constructed MLA Hostel is close to the NCC police station, the youths managed to give Police a slip and escaped in their vehicle.
Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the incident. CCTV footage from the hostel premises is currently being reviewed to identify the suspects and trace their movements. The breach has sparked widespread concern, not only over the safety of MLAs but also the broader implications for law and order in the state capital.
If the drunken youths can cause trouble in the MLA Hostel premises and dare to threat an MLA, where the security of common people is, asked a local resident.
“We have spoken to the Chief Minister, IG Law and Order, and other concerned authorities over the serious issue of the security breach at the MLA Hostel. It is not just about an attack on an MLA from our party-even if the attack was on any opposition MLA, we would have raised similar concerns. We have faith in the administration. Adequate steps will be taken to ensure that no such security lapse happens in future”.
In the aftermath, several Tipra Motha MLAs visited Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha at the Secretariat to raise their concerns. Speaking to reporters, MLA Brishaketu Debbarma emphasized the seriousness of the situation and said,
“We have spoken to the Chief Minister, IG Law and Order, and other concerned authorities over the serious issue of the security breach at the MLA Hostel. It is not just about an attack on an MLA from our party-even if the attack was on any opposition MLA, we would have raised similar concerns. We have faith in the administration. Adequate steps will be taken to ensure that no such security lapse happens in future”.
However, with the Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections approaching, the timing of the incident has added to public unease. Several pressing questions remain unanswered: How did the youths gain entry into a protected government facility so late at night? Was there no security personnel stationed at the gate? Why Police failed to nab them in the spot? And, the question is the identity of the culprits and their motives. Was it a politically motivated action to put the Government under pressure or simply a daring nuance of the drunken youths?
Whatever, may be the case, the breach has exposed glaring vulnerabilities in the security arrangements at the MLA Hostel and has prompted calls for immediate review and reinforcement of protocols.

As the investigation unfolds, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for robust security measures in and around Agartala especially during the night time.
The state administration now faces mounting pressure to deliver swift justice and restore public confidence, especially with the political climate heating up ahead of the TTAADC elections.
